Course Overview

This course will provide an introduction to the statistical methods to analyse epidemiological cross-sectional and/or case-control studies using Stata 12. It will focus on methods and interpretation, emphasizing the principles and complexities of data potential biases that may affect cross-sectional data. Topics to be covered measures of frequency and risk of disease, stratified analysis, evaluation of interaction to assess for effect modification and of adjustment approaches to control for confounding. In addition, the application of logistic regression models will be covered. The course will be based on lectures as well as discussions of practical exercises with Stata 12.

Proportions and odds
Measures of risk
Analysis of 2x2 tables
Stratifying and controlling
Mantel-Haenszel methods
Logistic regression


Prerequisites:
Basic knowledge of epidemiological concepts and familiarity with Stata basics.
