Job Description

Economist, Global Research (Standard Chartered Bank; New York, NY) Establish and maintain region-specific economic data, charts, and modeling databases for Canada, the United States and Latin America. Compile, analyze and report highly specialized data. Cover Canadian economic update/forecast, US housing market data forecast, and support the US macroeconomic update/forecast. Develop proprietary research models for markets in the Americas. Present the Bank's specialized research reports to forecast market trends. Apply mathematical models and statistical techniques to handle inquiries from both internal and external clients. Develop economic guidelines and standards in accordance with Standard Chartered Bank's global policies. Provide advisory services to the Group Risk and other key areas within Standard Chartered Bank. Investigate the economic relationship between Asia and the Americas and provide advice and consult on economic relationship. Build and maintain region-specific economic data, charts, and modeling database for the United States and Latin America. Perform quantitative analysis/modeling on global emerging markets. Monitor Canadian economic data and updating Chinese economic related topics.

Qualifications & Skills

Requirements: Master's degree in Economics, Finance, or a related field, and two years of related work experience in macroeconomic research.

Must have academic training on quantitative analysis, statistics, economics and finance. Must have knowledge of US, Europe, Middle East, and Asian economies.

Experience must include: statistical and analytical knowledge applying quantitative software, such as Eviews and Microfit, to build mathematical models to forecast and analyze economic data and illustrate economic trends; knowledge of money market and trading desk operations; knowledge of Chinese and other emerging Asian economies; exposure to Chinese dominant media outlets; knowledge of Chinese financial institutions and corporations; and financial market risks including Foreign Exchange, rates, and commodity markets.

Experience may be gained concurrently. Any suitable combination of education, training or experience is acceptable.
