Senior Analyst - Social and Economic Policy

Posted by: Abt Associates

Posted date: 19-Nov-2009

Location: Cambridge, MA

Organization Overview:
The Social and Economic Policy (SEP) Division has helped shape public policies benefiting millions of Americans through research and technical assistance aimed at improving the efficiency and effectiveness of government programs. Our contributions to public policy—at the national, state, and local levels—span a wide range of program areas, including housing, community revitalization, workforce development, education, and child and family welfare.

Minimum Qualifications :

Strongly preferred candidates with a Ph.D. (completed or expected in the next 9-12 months) in public policy, sociology, education, economics or a related field.  Candidates with a Masters and at least 3 years of relevant experience or a Bachelors with at least 6 years of experience will also be considered.

Job Responsibilities:

Abt Associates is looking for social policy researchers and quantitative policy analysts whose training and expertise blends strong research skills with knowledge of policies and programs promoting the social and economic well-being of children and families (including food assistance programs), the education of children, adolescents, and adults, and community and workforce development issues.

Responsibilities include contributing to or leading project management teams on all aspects of research projects.  Work assignments may include developing research designs, developing data collection instruments and plans, collecting quantitative and qualitative data, designing and implementing the analysis and synthesis of data, managing the work of more junior staff, and preparing technical memoranda and reports.

Successful candidates will be able to work on complex assignments with indirect supervision with latitude for independent action and decision-making.  We are particularly interested in candidates who can conduct a variety of quantitative tasks, including computer modeling, simulation, and simple to complex analyses.

Skills Prerequisites:

Demonstrated strong methodological, analytic, and writing skills are a prerequisite for this position.  Candidates must also be able to work effectively as a member of a team and manage simultaneous tasks while displaying an astute attention to detail.
