Under general supervision, the economist produces and analyzes economic data for the state with a particular emphasis on employment. Job duties include estimating and forecasting employment by industry; making presentations on the state economy; answering information requests from the public, government officials, and the media; and writing press releases, articles, and reports. This position works with a high degree of independence on complex and difficult program analysis and research projects. It requires a thorough understanding of the Alaska economy and the tools of research.
Qualifications A bachelor's degree in economics or any field including or supplemented by 20 semester hours (30 quarter hours) in economics and 6 semester hours (9 quarter hours) in calculus, statistics, or econometrics. AND Two years of journey level professional experience in the collection, analysis, interpretation and reporting of economic data. This experience is met by service as an Economist II with the State of Alaska or the equivalent elsewhere. Substitution: A master's degree in economics, mathematics, statistics, or econometrics will substitute for the required work experience. |
