Research Associate

The EU-funded INNOVKAR project is investigating the ecology, production and genetics of the shea tree in several countries throughout its range in the Sahel of western and central Africa. The research associate at York will collate field data gathered by partners during earlier work to: assess the impact of climate change and farmer practises on the natural regeneration of the shea tree; assess the impact of climate change and farmer practises on fruit production; predict shea tree parkland dynamics on long term using a predictive model of Shea regeneration and production under different management scenarios.

Therefore, applicants should ideally have PhD level experience of research in a West African environment; an understanding of the management of agri-silvicultural systems in West Africa; management of EU multi-partner projects.
