To carry out investment operations in the field of microfinance within the European Union and Candidate Countries under third party mandates awarded to EIF. The Microfinance Investment Manager reports to the Head of the Microfinance Team and cooperates closely with colleagues working both with microfinance incubation activity and internal services supporting the investment operations in the field.
Responsibilities
Contribute to the development of the EIF's strategy in the field of microfinance
Responsible for the complete investment cycle - identifying suitable investments, appraising them, getting them approved and disbursed and monitoring individual participation, in order to :
- develop a well-diversified portfolio of operations (loans/quasi-equity, equity, etc);
-manage overall exposure or concentration of risk;
- ensure an adequate return in relation to the risks taken and mandate specific developmental objectives of the operation;
-and ensure the consistent application of policies;
Implement policies and initiatives in microfinance investment operations and make suggestions to improve key operational processes;
Establish and develop business relations with key external parties (e.g. MFIs, micro banks, co-investors, regulatory bodies, mandators, etc) in order to develop the investment portfolio and acquire new operations, build co-operation and stay abreast of best practice.
Qualifications
University degree in Finance/Economics or a business related discipline;
Minimum of five years' experience in the banking, financial or development sector (preferably with investment experience of the microfinance sector) ;
Knowledge of financial analysis as well as experience in credit risk assessment and financial modelling for a wide variety of investments (senior loans, subordinated loans, risk participation facilities, equity participation, etc.);
Knowledge of quantitative techniques and tools;
Knowledge of the standard computer tools;
Excellent knowledge of written and spoken English. Knowledge of other EU languages would be an advantage.
