We are looking for an experienced Statistician who, under the supervision of an Administrator and/or Head of Section in the Trade and Business Statistics Division (TBS) , will ensure the timely updating, database maintenance and development of OECD’s International Trade by Commodity Statistics (ITCS) Database in the Statistics Directorate (STD).
Job Duties 1. Data collection • Collect annual merchandise trade data from National Statistical Offices and other official statistical sources in OECD Member and non•member countries, including accession, enhanced engagement and remaining G 20 countries from UNSD and IMF. • Verify the accuracy, coherence and internal consistency of the data and metadata supplied and take the necessary steps to ensure the quality, consistency and international comparability of the information. 2. Data management • Store the data using the special software jointly developed with UNSD (CoprA) and document the steps taken in metadata files. • Ensure that outside agencies including UNSD, the partner organisation of the Joint OECD-UNSD Trade Collection and Processing System, receives the data on a timely basis and transfer validated data to OECD.STAT. • Maintain contacts with ITCS users at OECD and in national and international statistical agencies. • Keep abreast of recent methodological developments with a view to improving data coverage and relevance. This concerns in particular the extension of trade values data to trade volumes and unit value indices to meet analytical OECD needs. • Develop and maintain documentation on the sources and methodology of national data and the methods by which these input data are modified, transformed or otherwise adjusted to produce data for OECD dissemination. • Respond to requests from users in areas of data classification system extensions (e.g. ICT-classification, Hi-Tech-classification, ISIC). 3. Data dissemination • Liaise with STD/SIMS, ITN and PAC to produce the range of outputs according to OECD standard procedures and quality standards. • Ensure full availability of ITCS data in OECD.Stat and contribute to new, more analytical, data products, such as “Trade at a Glance”. • Ensure good communication with team members and managers. • Contribute to drafts for technical reports and provide input to quantitative analysis. • Assist the Section Head in the preparation of ITCS presentations for the annual meeting of the Working Party on Trade in Goods and Trade in Services Statistics (WPTGS) Carry out ad hoc tasks as required.
