The Department of Agricultural Economics and Rural Sociology at the University of Idaho (UI) invites applications for a 9-month, tenure-track position as an Assistant Professor of Agricultural Economics. The position carries a 75 percent research and 25 percent teaching appointment.

Position Description:

The candidate is expected to develop a nationally-recognized research and teaching program focusing on agricultural and food markets, including but not limited to areas of interest such as industrial organization, cooperatives, horizontal and vertical coordination, product differentiation, food safety, food labeling, and traceability. The successful candidate will teach undergraduate and graduate courses in agricultural economics and agribusiness based upon educational background, interests, and departmental needs; advise undergraduate and graduate students; publish research in academic peer-reviewed journals; and secure extramural grant funding to support a strong nationally-recognized research program.

Required Qualifications:

PhD in Agricultural Economics, Economics or closely related field by the time of appointment.
Excellent training in econometrics, microeconomics, and quantitative methods.
Demonstrated excellence in oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills.

Desired Qualifications:

Potential for or demonstrated ability to attract extramural funding.
Potential for or record of publications in high quality refereed journals.
Potential for or record of research in food marketing, industrial organization, market structure, market power, food labeling or food safety.
Potential for or demonstrated ability for teaching excellence at the undergraduate and/or graduate levels.
Demonstrated ability to work with multidisciplinary research teams.
