Opportunity

The Abt Associates Environment and Resources Division (ERD) supports federal environmental and resource management agencies and state and local governments in addressing complex policy, management, and regulatory challenges. Our services include economic analysis, human health and environmental risk assessment, environmental modeling, regulatory and voluntary program support, and IT solutions. At ERD, you'll be at the forefront of environmental policy research as you develop and apply innovative approaches to analyzing important environmental policy questions.

Working closely within a multi-disciplinary project team, the Analyst will perform analyses on issues of environmental and natural resource regulation and policy, particularly as pertains to programs under the Clean Water Act, climate change mitigation and adaptation strategies, and pollution reduction and control.

The preferred candidate will have a Master's Degree in economics, resource/environmental economics, or a related discipline with an outstanding academic record; has worked in a consulting environment conducting quantitative research and analysis in economics and regulatory policy and working with with economic, environmental, and/or survey data; and has demonstrated knowledge of environmental law and regulations (Clean Water Act, in particular), energy/climate change issues, and key industries (e.g., electric power, oil and gas production).

Key Responsibilities

The candidate will perform economic, financial and other quantitative analyses. The candidate will assist in the preparation of documents, options papers, and other reports of work performed. The candidate will also participate in development of proposals for new work.

Skills/Knowledge Required:

Course work in relevant topics and disciplines such as microeconomics, finance, environmental/resource economics, econometrics/statistics, and quantitative methods.
Excellent oral communication, writing, and analytical skills.
Proficiency using spreadsheet software (Excel), data analysis software (R, SAS), and database software (Access).

Other Prerequisites

Research experience (through employment or academic coursework) and skills in the following areas are highly desirable: Federal water pollution control programs and regulations, climate change, and/or clean energy and energy efficiency; economic/environmental modeling and/or statistical/econometric analysis.
Knowledge of relevant environmental science (human health and ecosystem impact mechanisms) is useful.
Knowledge (through academic course work) of accounting and environmental/resource economics is a definite plus.

Minimum Qualifications

BA/BS with 3 - 5 years of experience OR MA/MBA (Entry Level) OR the equivalent combination of education and experience.
