Team Overview

The QEP Team has been researching global equity markets for over seventeen years and started managing global equity portfolios in 2000. It now invests more than £25bn for clients, across a range of strategies in Global and Emerging Markets equities. The QEP team currently comprises 30 people, 23 based in London, five in Sydney and two in New York.

Over the last 13 years QEP has achieved strong performance across its Global equity and Emerging Market strategies and offers a diverse product range including an Enhanced index (Core), Unconstrained Global Value, Quality and Blend funds.

Overview of role

A new London-based Analyst position to support the continued growth of the Quantitative Equity Products (QEP) team at Schroders as part of the Research Team which is based in both London and Sydney. We are seeking a highly motivated candidate with experience of developing and implementing research within Global Equity portfolios, ideally as part of a quantitative investment process.

Key duties

The primary requirement is to provide quantitative research to enhance the management of existing QEP investment products.
The potential list of projects is wide-ranging, covering all elements of equity-based research with a particular focus upon valuation and quality.
The role will often involve significant data manipulation and analysis and also the ability to think like fundamental stock investor. An interest in, and understanding of, company fundamentals is important.
The candidate will develop research of a standard that could be presented externally to consultants, clients and potential clients that explains our investment process in a simple, non-technical manner.

Personal Attributes

Good interpersonal skills and a practical research focused disposition (i.e. intellectual flexibility and creativity in developing new solutions).
Persuasive, credible and confident presence in dealing with clients, management and colleagues.
This will require working closely with Fund Managers, other research analysts within the QEP Team and
IT so the ability to see all sides of the equation, make good decisions and then be able to explain them will be important.

Essential Skills

A good degree in a numeric field, preferably Statistics, Economic, Operational Research or a Finance-related course.
At the very least, the candidate should have a strong working background in Statistics, Econometrics or Economics.
Previous relevant experience in the financial industry undertaking research of Global Equities, ideally of a quantitative basis. Ideally the candidate would have strong Fund Management experience.
The primary research tools used by the Team currently are applications written in Matlab so an experience of this or a similar statistical language is necessary, as would a familiarity with SQL.
