The Competition and Markets Authority (CMA) has completed its first year as a newly created organisation that promotes competition and makes markets work well for consumers, businesses and the economy. Over the last year we have delivered a number of successful outcomes as our work continues to benefit the lives of everyone in the UK. Joining us now, at the beginning of our next phase of transformation, will offer uniquely exciting professional opportunities.

This is an excellent career opportunity for a talented individual. You'll join a small team that undertakes econometric analysis for teams working on competition and consumer cases as well as research and evaluation projects. It's a varied role that will see you work across the full range of projects the CMA undertakes (e.g. mergers, market investigations, competition and consumer enforcement cases, and regulatory appeals). It's an exceptional opportunity to gain experience in the wide range of work carried out by the CMA, and to develop a deep understanding of competition economics and quantitative techniques used in the field. You'll have the opportunity to work on extensive econometric analysis projects, often drawing on large datasets and utilising complex techniques, but all with the support of senior colleagues.

We expect that you'll be degree qualified (with a significant emphasis on econometrics) potentially enhanced by a post-graduate qualification and that you have an excellent understanding of a range of econometric techniques, particularly in cross-section and panel data analysis. Experience applying techniques used in empirical industrial organisation would be a considerable advantage, but isn't considered to be essential. You should offer a blend of strong analysis and reporting skills and be able to advise and support non-technical colleagues and audiences, even when communicating complex information.

All CMA staff enjoy generous benefits, including an excellent pension scheme, at least 25 days' leave (increasing to 30 over five years), favourable consideration of flexible working, and generous maternity/paternity leave provision. You can also take advantage of childcare vouchers, interest-free season ticket loans, a cycle to work scheme and our employee wellbeing programme. Full details of our terms and conditions are published alongside each vacancy on our website.
