The Assistant General Manager heads the Tourism Research Australia (TRA) team in the management of research and quality statistics relevant to Government and the Tourism Sector. TRA is part of the Tourism Division in the Australian Trade Commission (Austrade) and this is a senior leadership role in that Division.

Austrade contributes to Australia's economic prosperity by helping Australian businesses, education institutions, government and citizens, and tourism operators in a range of areas, including providing market insight and quality advice and services. Part of Austrade's remit is to provide advice and develop programs and research which strengthen Australia's tourism industry and help grow Australia's tourism market share. See www.austrade.gov.au.

Tourism Research Australia's program produces data, information and insights which underpin the government's policy development and industry's marketing, planning and investment decisions. The TRA head works closely with industry, state and territory tourism agencies and Tourism Australia.

High quality candidates for this role will have extensive applied research experience, including significant leadership experience, managing teams involved in a complex economics or research organisation and an understanding of economics and forecasting. They will have demonstrated capability to effectively represent Austrade in a range of high level corporate and government settings. They will have the ability to engage with industry stakeholders to ensure that TRA's outputs are relevant and accessible to them. This SES Band 1 role is based in Canberra.

Candidates must be Australian citizens and agree to be subject to a national security assessment for clearance at Baseline level.

Qualifications in Economics and previous experience in the oversight of large scale survey programs and data delivery are desirable.
