Assistant Professor of Mathematical Economics

Working at the UvA
The Faculty of Economics and Business (FEB) at the UvA provides academic courses for more than 5,000 students in Economics and Business, Actuarial Sciences, Econometrics & Operations Research, Fiscal Economics, and a variety of postdoctoral courses. The Faculty also conducts research programmes in many specialist areas and has a staff of about 400 people.
Mathematical economics constitutes a core part of the curriculum taught in the Bachelor of Science programme Econometrics & Operations Research and of the (English) Master of Science programme Econometrics of the Amsterdam School of Economics. The Mathematical Economics and Mathematics section is part of the Amsterdam School of Economics, and currently has around 12 staff members. It includes the CeNDEF (Center for Nonlinear Dynamics in Economics and Finance) research group. Members from the section conduct research in mathematical economics, game theory, nonlinear economic dynamics and complex systems theory and teach courses in mathematical economics and mathematics.

Tasks
Research in the field of mathematical economics;
Teaching courses in mathematics and mathematical economics in the bachelor of science programme in Econometrics & Operations Research and teaching courses on mathematics in the bachelor of science programme in Economics & Business.

Requirements
PhD in Mathematical Economics / Economic Theory or a related field (finished, or close to completion);
Internationally oriented researcher, with publications in international scientific journals;
Clear and excellent teaching evaluations, preferably in possession of the certificate Learning and Teaching in Higher Education Programme (in Dutch referred to as BKO). Applicants not in possession of this certificate are expected to follow this programme when appointed. As teaching of a major part of the programmes is in Dutch, the candidate is required to be able to teach in Dutch, or to acquire that skill within one year.

Appointment
This is a tenure track position. The initial appointment is for two years. Depending on good research and teaching evaluations, an extension with another two years is possible with a tenure decision after four years.
The gross monthly salary will be, depending on experience, between € 3.195,- (scale 11) and € 4.970,- (scale 12) based on fulltime and in accordance with the salary scales and the collective agreement regulating employment conditions at Dutch universities.
