Chair of the Migration Advisory Committee

Do you want to play a leading role in advising the Government on a range of migration policy related issues?

As Chair of the Migration Advisory Committee (MAC), you will oversee the operation and output of the Committee that provides transparent and independent advice to the Government to inform policy and strategy on migration issues. In addition, your role will be to ensure that the MAC's decisions are based on the best possible evidence and analysis.

The MAC delivers independent, high quality evidence-based, economics focused reports on a range of migration issues, including:
the impacts of migration;
the limits on migration under the Points Based System; and
skills shortages within occupations.

The Chair sets the strategic direction for the Committee and has overall responsibility for its work. There is a high level of interest in migration and speaking on behalf of the MAC to the press and being interviewed by journalists and broadcast media is also a key element of the role. As are the competence, authority and interpersonal skills to secure and retain the confidence of the Home Secretary, other Government Ministers and a wide variety of internal and external stakeholders.

We are seeking candidates who possess expertise in the field of labour or migration economics, or any other relevant social science discipline. You should also have or be able to demonstrate leadership skills, and be able to analyse complex data and provide workable recommendations. As such, strong communication skills, both verbal and written, are essential.

This appointment will be for an initial period of three years.
