Chief Economist - Grain Markets

Position Purpose:

Perform high level financial analyses for the Grain Market Division and provide business planning guidance through the use of data/analysis to promote information-based decision making in support of growth and profitability goals. This position will develop economic analysis of markets, project impacts, and potential new opportunities based on objective, systematic information and economic discipline. The Chief Economist will have the responsibility for the development, coordination and production of economic and financial analysis as well as the ability to present at conferences and to individual corporate customers.

Primary Accountabilities/Responsibilities:

• Compile reports and illustrations of research findings
• Devise methods for data collection, sampling, and processing in regard to finance, agriculture, commodities, trade, etc.
• Design and conduct research to identify trends and formulate forecast models
• Provide project management to ensure delivery of economic research undertakings
• Assist with publication of research documents and reports
• Oversee economic research projects from initial design through execution
• Share and present economic data interpretations with specialists of differing expertise
• Provide regular reports and analysis of developments in supply/demand of grains and other related products
• Assess opportunities for various grains and their products to enable staff and members to make informed programming decisions and set priorities
• Develop criteria for measuring and evaluating the impact of projects, establishing consistent criteria and performance measures to be used across commodities and markets
• Develop and maintain data, analysis, summaries and charts to provide ongoing updates of market conditions, changes in fundamental dynamics of export customers and competitors
• Use external data to develop outlook for global markets of grain and products
• Provide economic advice and recommendations
• Analyzing and interpreting complicated numerical and financial information
• Maintains prompt and regular attendance.

Job Requirements:

• Bachelor's degree in Finance, Business Management, Economics or Mathematics preferred
• Master's degree in economics, ag-econ or other related discipline
• Minimum of 10 years of prior work experience in economic analysis, market research and project management preferred
• Excellent quantitative, problem solving and analytical skills
• Strong verbal and written communication skills
• Ability to effectively communicate complex data/ideas to all levels of management
• Strong project management and organization skills
• Proficient computer skills, including Microsoft Excel
• Attention to detail and ability to coordinate and manage multiple priorities in a fast paced environment
• Must be authorized to work in the US for any employer
• A sound understanding of economic theory
• Strong interpersonal skills, commercial awareness and the ability to handle high pressure situations

• Climate controlled office environment
• Minimal physical requirements other than occasional light lifting of boxed materials
• Dynamic, time-sensitive environment
• Travel as needed
