Position Overview:
The JPMorgan Chase Institute, in collaboration with a primary vendor is seeking a Consultant - Academic Research Fellow focused on consumer or household finance research. The JPMorgan Chase Institute Research Fellowship program engages scholars at the frontier of quantitative social sciences to conduct original economic research using proprietary big data within JPMorgan Chase. Research Fellows work in a consultative capacity and serve an 18 to 24 month term, during which Fellows propose to obtain access to JPMorgan Chase Institute data for the purposes of producing an academic research paper, subject to privacy and data usage protocols.

In addition to pursuing their academic research, Fellows provide consultative analytical support to JPMorgan Chase Institute research projects, up to 20 hours per week. Fellows are paid for hours spent supporting Institute research.

Fellows conduct all analytical work using JPMorgan Chase data (for the Institute and for their academic paper).

Job Responsibilities:
• Conduct original data analysis using anonymized customer transactions
• Conduct market research and literature reviews to contextualize research within existing knowledge and benchmarks
• Support efforts to build the JPMorgan Chase data asset, including scoping new data requests, reviewing data request requirements, and user testing to validate data
• Participate in weekly problem solving sessions on various research efforts
• Provide thought partnership and support to JPMC Institute team members on analytical approach, writing and reviewing code, validating results, etc.
• Support in drafting and reviewing written research reports and other output

Job Qualifications
• Candidates with quantitative social science research experience are strongly preferred, especially those with experience in R and SQL
• Experience working with big data (e.g. 1,000,000 data points and more)
• Demonstrates strong understanding of the state of consumer finance research
• Strong writing and oral communications skills
• Demonstrates creativity, excellent problem-solving and strategic thinking skills, and initiative taking
• Ability to work in a high-performance professional environment, with quick turn-around and changing priorities
• Team player comfortable with ambiguity
• Doctoral candidates or a PhD in relevant field
• Commitment to an minimum average of 20 hours per week to analytical support for JPMC Institute research
