As the Director of the Office of Economics, and the USITC's Chief Economist, you will direct the Commission's responsibilities with respect to economic analysis and research, providing executive leadership to the various economic programs and studies requested by the Congress and the President under section 332 of the Tariff Act of 1930, and various other research products. You will also serve as a key member of the executive leadership of the Commission, actively participating in activities that drive the strategic direction of the Commission and optimize resource usage to further the Commission's mission.

In addition to economic expertise, we also are seeking an individual with extensive experience leading teams of highly technical skilled professionals and supervisors with demonstrated ability to communicate effectively with internal customers and staff to achieve strategic and statutory goals.

As Director, Office of Economics, you will oversee the economic content of all of the Commission's responsibilities with respect to the conduct of investigations under various sections of the Trade and Tariff Acts, and provide expert economic analysis for import injury investigations. As the USITC's Chief Economist and a global leader in the analysis of international trade and industry competitiveness, you will plan and direct the economic programs of the agency, working with your senior managers, lead economists, industry experts and legal advisors. You will direct data collection methods, providing state of the art techniques, with continuing focus on improvements in order to be able to quickly respond to changing policy interests and customer's needs.

The Office of Economics has established a global reputation for research and analysis of trade and trade related issues and plays an important role in providing independent and objective advice to the United States Trade Representative, Senate Committee on Finance, and the House Committee on Ways and Means. The Director of Economics regularly meets with U.S. and foreign government officials, and private and civic society interested parties. As a senior official of the agency, you will have direct responsibility for managing the organization, including determining strategic and annual goals and objectives, establishing performance plans and objectives, assigning work, evaluating performance, supporting agency human resource, equal employment opportunity and labor relations policies and objectives, managing fiscal resources, and ensuring adherence to security, privacy and internal control requirements within your organization. Along with other agency senior executives, you will take an active role in agency-wide management.
