Competition and Markets Authority (CMA) Economics logo

Competition and Markets Authority (CMA)
London - United Kingdom
S: £51,702 - £59,351

Location: Victoria House, London WC1B 4AD
Salary: £51,702 - £59,351 plus excellent benefits.

The Competition and Markets Authority (CMA), the UK's main competition and consumer authority, is undergoing rapid business expansion. As the UK leaves the EU, our role will become even more important as the diversity, number, and complexity of the cases we work on increases, both in the merger control sphere and in anticompetitive behaviour cases. Our econometric analysis will be critical to how we respond to the new competition policy challenges that we face.

Econometrics Advisers are responsible for delivering complex quantitative and econometric analysis, working flexibly across a variety of projects undertaken by the CMA, including investigations into mergers and markets, competition and consumer law enforcement cases, and regulatory appeals.

You will either be working across multiple projects at the same time, or leading an econometrics work stream on a more complex case. You will be responsible for providing guidance, support and the development of econometric analysis undertaken by case teams, and assessing the validity and robustness of econometric evidence submitted by parties to a case. Econometric Advisers are also expected to contribute to developing the CMA's econometrics capability. You may also have the opportunity to work with the CMA's newly created Data Unit team.

The successful candidate will have a post-graduate degree (or equivalent work experience) with a focus in microeconometric analysis, and with strong microeconomics and industrial organisation and/or competition economics. In your application you must be able to evidence practical experience in applying a range of econometric techniques and communicating technical econometric analysis to non-technical audiences.

As an employer, the CMA has a strong emphasis on continuous learning and development. In addition, to on the job learning, we offer a great range of seminars to ensure professional learning on topics relating to technical skills and personal development.

In return we offer generous benefits, including an excellent pension scheme, at least 25 days leave (increasing to 30 over five years), and generous maternity/paternity leave provision. You can also take advantage of interest-free season ticket loans, a cycle to work scheme, our employee assistance programme and favourable consideration of flexible working.
