The Economic Data Manager / Statistician will be the driver of data strategy and implementation for the Macro Research team. S/he will be responsible for specifying in detail what is needed for sign off by the business head, will source the data, define the storage schema, perform data processing (raw vs cleaning vs splicing) all the while keeping integrated with firm-wide requirements. In conjunction with others – including the firm's quants/devs – the candidate will design the processes for managing items such as internal database management & live updates, quality control & integrity checks of data series, transformation including seasonal adjustments and other filtering/smoothing techniques.
The candidate will work with very large, raw data sets of different frequencies and will produce regular, periodic reports used throughout the firm, as well as ad-hoc studies. Additionally, s/he will own the cost and hardware management for the team, and project manage the integration of external data providers (eg Haver) into the existing platform.
The successful candidate will work to identify alternative sources of data, including contact with national statistical offices and private sector data providers. S/he will explore opportunities in connection to third-party providers of non conventional data and of solutions for extracting economic and market-relevant information from big data. The successful candidate will take part with the rest of the macro research team in the production of research outputs for internal risk-takers with a strong emphasis on user-friendly and speedy visualization.
