POSITION SUMMARY

This position will report to the Chief Economist and will be based in Houston. The Economics and Decisions Analysis discipline in Hess is newly launched and there are significant efforts to improve the structure, logic and robustness of our investment decisions. This role will provide strong input into these efforts, be it in the form of review, upgrading of standards, mentoring or conducting internal training. At times, the role will also carry out analysis on behalf of projects/ assets that are unable to do so themselves. The successful candidate will be expected to have strong fundamental understanding of economics and decision analysis and be ready to contribute to advancing the thinking around the discipline within Hess. The focus of the role will be in Economics, relating to experience with different fiscal systems, modelling those and ensuring models are thoroughly reviewed. This position will require close coordination with Exploration, Commercial, Pre-Developments, Developments, Drilling and Production departments in Hess to ensure alignment and collaboration in evaluating decision opportunities. Some periodic travel may be required although this is not expected to be significant.

ROLES & RESPONSIBILITIES

* Build effective relationships with economists in the company and ensure that expert input is provided to those teams for a high quality economic evaluation.
* Mentor more junior Economists/ Decisions Analysts in the corporation.
* Where needed carry out economic and decision analysis (build models, run evaluations) for assets that are unable to do so themselves.
* Provide rigorous QC of economic assessments (model reviews, input assumptions, overall logic).
* Ensure team members are not working in isolation, but seeking input from all involved experts from Exploration, Pre-Developments, Developments, Drilling, and Production.
* Develop training material and present them to economics and general community.

QUALIFICATIONS

Experience

* Detailed understanding of the key drivers for upstream development projects (technical, commercial, political, marketing).
* Experience in preparing international economic evaluations and completing DCF analysis using standard industry Economics Packages.
* Experience and understanding of probabilistic methodologies in evaluations.
* Ability to identify and account for wider issues (interaction between projects and assets, strategic issues).
* Expert knowledge of economic modeling of royalty/tax and PSC fiscal terms.
* Experience in using PEEP economic software.
* Understanding of Risks and Uncertainties associated with the business.
* Sufficient functional understanding of technical subsurface disciplines and well-related issues and how they relate to development planning to allow effective and pragmatic integration and QC of project economic input data sets.
* Strong interpersonal skills and the proven ability to work effectively within a multidiscipline team.
* Effective oral and written communication skills, particularly for technical presentations.
* Self-motivated to learn and adopt new methods, impart knowledge to others, and coordinate efforts with cross functional teams.
* Proactive analytical skills with attention to details and process improvements.
* Proven ability to effectively apply mentoring and coaching skills in a range of situations.
* 5 + years of industry experience.
* Experience with PowerPoint, EXCEL, PEEP, Crystal Ball or other Monte Carlo and Decision Tree software (eg DPL).

Education, Training & Certifications

* Bachelor of Science degree or numerate discipline.
* Masters or MBA a Plus.
