POSITION SUMMARY

Hess is in the process of rebuilding its exploration portfolio which will underpin the longer term growth of the company. With the appointment of a new SVP of exploration, these efforts have gathered pace and have resulted in an increased requirement for economic support. This position will report to the Manager of Pre-Developments and will be based in Houston. The functional reporting line of this role will be into the Chief Economist. This role will complement two existing economists supporting Worldwide Exploration (both in the Capture and Mature phases) and will be part of a multi-disciplinary team that includes geoscientists, subsurface and surface/conceptual engineers. The successful candidate will be expected to have strong fundamental understanding of economics and decision analysis. Exposure and experience in Exploration economics, in particular familiarity with geologic concepts will be required. This position will require close coordination with Commercial, Land, Tax, Geoscience, Conceptual Engineering and Drilling departments in Hess to ensure alignment and collaboration in evaluating decision opportunities.

ROLES & RESPONSIBILITIES

Provide economic support to the Exploration group, specifically,
Build fiscal models for new countries, ensure appropriate risked exploration value is ascribed to the opportunity.
Ensure that rolled up block volumes are correctly represented, taking into account dependencies within the underlying geologic variables.
Carry out high level sense check of input data from different groups to ensure coherent.
Ensure appropriate reviews/ peer assists occur within Value Assurance processes.
Represent economic component in the Value Assurance Reviews.
Ensure team members are not working in isolation, but seeking input from all involved experts from Commercial, Land, Tax, Geoscience, Conceptual Engineering and Drilling.
Ensure appropriate data is provided to the planning community during the annual WPB process.
From a wider functional perspective, ensure active engagement with the Economics and DA community, providing periodic support to help review opportunities, or share knowledge within the community.

QUALIFICATIONS

Experience

Proficient with the basic geologic concepts that relate to Exploration (POS, dependencies, failure tolerance etc)
Expert knowledge of economic modeling of royalty/tax and PSC fiscal terms.
Experience and understanding of probabilistic methodologies in evaluations
Experience in using PEEP economic software.
Understanding of the key drivers for upstream development projects (technical, commercial, political, marketing).
Strong interpersonal skills and the proven ability to work effectively within a multidiscipline team.
Effective oral and written communication skills, particularly for technical presentations.
Self-motivated to learn and adopt new methods, impart knowledge to others, and coordinate efforts with cross functional teams.
Proactive analytical skills with attention to detail.
Significant (10+) years of industry experience.
Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, and EXCEL.
Crystal Ball or other Monte Carlo software.
Decision Tree software (eg DPL).

Education, Training & Certifications

Bachelor of Science/ Engineering/ Geoscience degree or numerate (Economics/ Finance) discipline.
Advanced degree preferred.
