Deloitte's Research team is seeking to hire an analyst to support and work alongside our UK Chief Economist. This is a wide ranging and demanding role in a high profile team. The successful candidate will be versatile and will have strong writing and presentation skills, the ability to generate ideas under pressure and a real enthusiasm for economics. The successful candidate will work with our Chief Economist on projects including:
Research products for regional and corporate clients as well as presenting findings to client audiences;
Generating research and ideas for our weekly Monday Briefing which goes to 12,000 Deloitte staff and client weekly;
Developing our quarterly Deloitte CFO Survey. The Survey has become a benchmark of corporate financial behaviour, widely quoted by the press and used by Bank of England. The successful candidate will collate and analyse the results of the survey, identify trends in credit conditions, investment intentions and financial strategies across UK companies by sector, size and other characteristics;
Building databases and performing statistical analysis on macroeconomic and aggregate corporate financial data; working on client projects that involve producing bespoke research and providing ideas and advice on how financial and economic prospects are likely to affect the business sector;
Monitoring corporate, financial and economic news flow; reviewing academic and sell-side research; attending conferences to stay up to date on on-going debates in economic circles; building relationships across the firm and support professionals in Deloitte's service lines with ideas and insight.
Requirements
At least a first degree in finance/economics is preferred, although of greater importance is a real and proven enthusiasm in economics, financial markets and current affairs
Good marketing and presentation skills
Versatility and flexibility: a willingness and a high level of ability in handling data/charting, ideas generation and writing
Experience of MS Excel, PowerPoint, Datastream and any econometric packages
Knowledge of current, key economic debates
Excellent written English and an ability to summarise complex information succinctly
Self-motivated, creative and organized, ability to conduct independent research
Extensive course work and/or employment in the field of economics/finance desirable
