We are seeking to complement our policy and economics team with an economist experienced in carrying out regulatory impact assessment and other types of policy evaluation. Strong quantitative skills are important, along with a particular emphasis on research, analysis and writing skills.
Key tasks will include but not necessarily be limited to:
• Management of policy research and analysis projects (or their economic components) from their inception to their completion, including supervision of multi-disciplinary expert teams and junior associates
• Providing expert contribution on the economic/cost dimension of legal and policy analysis projects, including regulatory impact assessments and evaluations. This may include the application of quantitative tools and methods (e.g. cost-benefit analysis, econometrics, valuation techniques).
• Conceptualising and writing project proposals, setting up a project team and structuring budgets
• Mentoring and development of in-house junior economists and policy advisors
The successful candidate will have the following skills and competencies:
• Knowledge of the EU's institutional architecture and policy making processes; experience with the European Commission's impact assessment and evaluation guidelines and Better Regulation initiative is a strong advantage

• Active interest and knowledge of EU policies on environment, climate change and energy is preferred; candidates with expertise in other EU policy areas (e.g. public health, cohesion policy, justice and fundamental rights, employment and social affairs) will also be considered. Candidates should be willing to work flexibly across different policy areas.

• A Master's degree or higher in law, political science, environmental science, economics or a closely related field and at least five years of relevant work experience

• Ability to prioritise a busy and varied workload

• Outstanding spoken and written English, including drafting skills

• Knowledge of other European languages is a plus
