DUTIES:
Back to topAs a Economist (Director of Regulatory Analysis), you will:


•Review draft economic analyses by DOT operating administrations and advise DOT components on the proper methodologies for the full range of economic analyses required to determine whether potential changes to DOT regulations are warranted.
•Assist in planning the full range of economic analyses, and the supporting analyses of other disciplines, required to evaluate and shape recommendations among alternatives for implementing proposed changes to DOT's comprehensive national and international standards and regulations.
•Provide economic training and consultation to staff throughout DOT to ensure that regulatory impact analyses are completed in accordance with DOT policies and OMB Circular A-4.
•Conduct certain economic evaluations in support of rules issued by the Office of the Secretary of Transportation.
•Collaborate with the Office of Policy to develop policies, strategies, and plans for economic programs/projects for agency-wide application. One area of potential research at DOT is to determine approaches on how to value societal benefits from preventing high-consequence/low-probability events.
