Description

The Economist has direct responsibility for analyzing and keeping abreast of the macro and regional economic environment and its relationship to the demand for energy and potential impact on the company's strategies and goals. In this role, the position has the responsibility for the Development of the company's economic outlook through working with external economic forecasting vendors and critically integrating local knowledge and insights as it relates to our energy forecasting processes. This position will be responsible for the communication, utilization and acceptance of economic data, insights, and assumptions into System and Operating Company planning and analysis processes, external communications, and System Committees.
This position will work directly with and report to the Company's Chief Economist in the support of needs for economic analysis, insights for Southern Company's earnings Call and other studies and processes as needed. In this role, this position will interact with Senior and Executive Management and their staffs in providing economic analysis.

JOB REQUIREMENTS:(Education, Experience, Knowledge, Skills)

Education
Master of Science or Phd in Economics.

Experience
Minimum of 5 years experience in Corporate Planning/Analysis functions.
Utility Planning experience a plus

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
Comprehensive knowledge of macroeconomics, economic indicators and their use in business analysis, and microeconomics as related to cost/benefit analysis
Firm understanding of econometrics and statistics
Good knowledge of industry/market issues and conditions
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills

Limited travel required (once a month to company locations and industry related conferences.)
