Position Summary:

Assumes project management roles and leads cross-functional teams on economic issues with business implications.
Under minimal supervision, provides quantitative analysis of economic forecasting, competitive intelligence, market segmentation, targeted marketing initiatives and other trends in support of the organization's long range global strategies.

Skills/Knowledge Considered A Plus
The Economist position will support the Corporate Economics Department of FedEx Services. With minimum supervision, this position will perform economic analysis of the macro economy, the oil market and the transportation industry. The economist will analyze economic data to provide technical expertise on issues that support the organization's marketing vision.
Prepare reports analyzing the U.S. and international economies, oil markets and the transportation industry for the Chief Economist.
Compile, organize and maintain economic data for internal and external use.
Aid the Chief Economist in preparing reports and presentations for internal and external audiences.
Implement structural econometric models to gauge the impact of relevant economic variables on parcel industry metrics, including revenue, volume and yields.
Create indices and metrics to analyze economic data.
Prepare written economic analysis for reports to senior management.
Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written.
Demonstrated experience in economic analysis, econometrics and forecasting.
Knowledge of SAS and Eviews.
Knowledge of EXCEL and experience with excel macros.
A solid foundation in econometric modeling.
A solid foundation in macroeconomics (e.g. understanding of Keynesian and Neo-Classical economic models, implications and critiques).
Knowledge of government data sources (e.g. BEA, Census, Federal Reserve, etc.) a plus.
Knowledge of accounting (e.g. ability/experience reading financial statements) a plus.

Qualifications:
Master's degree/equivalent in Business, Finance/Economics, Computer Science,
Engineering or related field required.
One (1) year experience in analytical/ quantitative business, operations, economics, or engineering.
Working experience in third and fourth generation computer languages, Unix or rdbms required.
Strong human relations, communication and analytical skills.
More advanced degrees may offset experience requirements.
A directly related master's degree can be exchanged for two (2) years of experience.
Note: without a master's degree, a bachelors/equivalent plus three (3) years related work experience is required.
