The Federal Reserve Bank of St. Louis has an immediate opening for an Economist in its recently launched Community Bank Research and Outreach (CBRO) office. The CBRO is housed in St. Louis Fed's Banking Supervision, Credit, Community Development and Learning Innovation Division.
The Community Bank Research and Outreach office conducts original research and analysis on issues related to community banking. The CBRO is also one of the primary organizers of the Federal Reserve and Conference of State Bank Supervisors' annual Community Banking in the 21st Century research and policy conference. This conference provides a forum for researchers from around the world to present original research on topics related to community banking. Responsibilities include:
• Conduct new and primary research on community banking, suitable for submission to the annual Community Banking in the 21st Century conference and to scholarly journals and Federal Reserve and other publications;
• Help lead the development of the annual National Survey of Community Banks and assist in the analysis and publication of survey findings;
• Support the informational and analytical needs of the Banking Supervision Division, especially on matters pertaining to community banking;
• Participate in research symposia, outreach events and in other forums that generate new knowledge about community banking and build interest in community bank research;
• Participate in a Federal Reserve System (internal) community bank research group and collaborate with researchers throughout and beyond the System;
• Represent the CBRO at conferences, symposia and other events; and
• As a core member of the CBRO, contribute to the overall strategic direction of the office.

The ideal candidate will possess the following skills and qualifications:
• A Ph.D. in economics or closely related field is preferred; candidates with a Master's degree in economics or in a closely related field will also be considered;
• Demonstrated empirical research capabilities;
• Knowledge of banking or similar financial datasets, including experience working with the data from the Consolidated Reports of Condition and Income;
• Ability to conceptualize and lead the development of new research initiatives on behalf of the CBRO, as well as generally strengthen the impact of the CBRO;
• Ability to work collaboratively; and
• Strong written and oral communication skills.
