Use your expertise to protect the environment

Deliver economic evidence that will help safeguard the future of our coastal and offshore waters. Inform national policy and enable the Marine Management Organisation (MMO) to make sound, value for money decisions. It's your chance to make an impact on a highly influential public body – and on the sustainable development of English seas.

About the role
Reporting to the Head of Evidence, you'll support decision-making across a wide range of fascinating, challenging areas – from fishing quotas to marine pollution to protected sites. You'll need to put consistent review mechanisms in place to make sure your evidence can withstand scrutiny. At the same time, you'll take the lead on the economic R&D that supports our operating functions. You might be providing cost-benefit analyses or advising on Impact Assessments; identifying gaps in socio-economic evidence or leading evidence commissions; helping to evaluate bids to the European Maritime and Fisheries Fund or representing the MMO externally. But whatever your involvement, you'll be an innovative focal point for all our economic issues – and someone who keeps us at the forefront of economic developments.

About you
Your economic analysis will need to comply with HMT Green Books standards. We'll also expect you to know how to assess the costs and benefits of regulation in line with Government standards. So an impressive record of applying economic principles to environmental policy and legislation, ideally in the public sector, is a must. You'll be a skilled collaborator too, comfortable in a multi-disciplinary environment and good at forging strong working relationships with economists and operating functions.

About the MMO
The Marine Management Organisation licenses, regulates and plans marine activities in the seas around England and Wales so that they're carried out in a sustainable way. This helps the government achieve its vision for clean, healthy, productive and biologically diverse oceans and seas.
