The Federal Reserve Bank of Kansas City has an opening for the position of Economist or Senior Economist in the Banking Research Department. The position's primary responsibilities are to advise and assist Reserve Bank management in the formulation of bank supervisory policy, provide speech support to senior officers, and conduct banking and financial policy-oriented research for the Bank's Economic Review and academic journals.

Key Activities
• Provides policy advice to the Bank's President, Board of Directors and senior Bank management. Information covered includes current economic and financial conditions, staff outlook, regional conditions, banking and payments system issues and other special topics.
• Conducts basic and applied research on issues relevant to the Federal Reserve and presents research at conferences and publishes it in top general and field journals in economics and finance.
• Writes articles for Bank publications such as the Economic Review, The Macro Bulletin, The Main Street Economist, Research Working Paper series and Payments System Research Briefings based on innovative independent research on complex topics that may include technical analysis and policy sensitive content.
• Makes presentations about the Federal Reserve, the economic outlook and his/her own original research to banking, business, and professional groups.
• Provides feedback on other professional economist's research both informally at conferences and seminars and formally by preparing referee reports on research submitted to professional journals.
• Participates in training and guidance of junior staff members, by directing work, explaining economic concepts, and analytical techniques. May also provide feedback to the junior staff's direct supervisor.
• Actively participates in department activities and policy discussions, frequently interacts with colleagues about research activities, and adds to the intellectual environment of the department.
• Performs other duties as assigned

Requirements
• Doctorate in Economics or Finance with an emphasis in banking, preferably at a top economics department.
• Superior knowledge of economic theory, econometrics and statistics. Strong knowledge of U.S. banking and its regulatory framework and a background in banking and financial policy research.
• State-of-the-art training and the ability to produce rigorous empirical and/or theoretical research on par with research done by faculty at top Ph.D.-granting economics and finance departments.
• Strong potential to publish research on issues relevant to the Federal Reserve in leading journals and to become and internationally recognized leader in their research field.
• Superior computer skills using Microsoft Office Suite products, econometric and statistical analysis software, and computer programming languages.
• Excellent written and oral communication skills.
• Previous work experience with publications on banking topics or at a bank regulatory agency is preferred.
