The GSMA is focused on innovating, incubating and creating new opportunities for its membership, with the end goal of driving the growth of the mobile communications industry.

Our people include some of the best talent from around the world focusing on developing strategic industry initiatives. GSMA Intelligence

GSMA Intelligence is working to position the GSMA as the intelligence powerhouse of the global mobile industry. GSMA Intelligence provides primary industry data, research and thought leadership on the mobile industry ecosystem and its wider impact. In the last year, our research has featured in publications such as the FT, The Wall Street Journal, CNBC, Reuters and dozens of industry press articles.

GSMA Intelligence is also the internal supplier of choice for research and analysis across the GSMA's programmes and advocacy activities. This had previously relied heavily on top-tier management, strategy and economic consultants, and GSMA Intelligence is now providing a high quality alternative, bringing benefits of increased quality, consistency, visibility and cost effectiveness. The Role

GSMA Intelligence is looking to hire a talented and highly-motivated economist. This is an exciting new role where the candidate will have a unique opportunity to drive innovative economic analysis to influence the industry in the most strategic and cutting-edge topics, areas and challenges. The economist will work on a range of projects for GSMA Intelligence's internal clients - the GSMA's programmes and advocacy initiatives. Examples of such programmes include:

- Mobile for Development (http://www.gsma.com/mobilefordevelopment/ )
- Public Policy (http://www.gsma.com/publicpolicy/ )
- Spectrum (http://www.gsma.com/spectrum/ )
- Connected Society (http://www.gsma.com/mobilefordevelopment/programmes/connected-society)

The job holder will be part of a team of talented economists which are on high internal demand to deliver economic research and consulting across the GSMA.

The economist will ensure that robust economic thinking underpins all socio-economic analysis across the GSMA, and contribute to other GSMA research projects as required, working across a range of subject areas. Areas of research and analysis for the next 18 months are likely to include, to cite a few:

Research and modelling of the economic impact of taxation on the mobile sector (across different countries and regions);
Econometric research of the impact of regulatory change on consumers (key areas of regulatory focus that may be subject to specific analysis are likely to include competition policy, spectrum policy and sector specific regulations);
Economic modelling and forecasting of the macroeconomic impact of the industry on GDP, employment and public funding;
The development of quantitative benchmarking tools to understand the social and economic contribution of mobile technology to the United Nation's Sustainable Development Goals for 2030;
Economic cost-benefit modelling of options to expand mobile coverage into rural areas in developing countries.

Other research and projects that require economic input or quantitative analysis will arise on an ongoing basis and the candidate will need to be able to respond to such short-term requests.

The ideal candidate will be a self-starter with solid knowledge of applied economics, experience in designing and developing complex economic impact models, and a good track-record in effectively communicating analysis to non-specialists. The team is growing fast and there is also an important role to play in building the team's activities, developing new proposals and projects with internal clients.

The GSMA encourages personal and professional development and this is an excellent opportunity for the right candidate to develop within the organisation and the wider telecommunications industry, and to help grow the GSMA Intelligence business.
