This position is located in the Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS), Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), Deputy Director for Infectious Diseases (DDIS), National Center for HIV/AIDS, Hepatitis, STD & TB Prevention (NCHHSTP), Division of Sexually Transmitted Disease Prevention (DSTDP), in Atlanta, Georgia.

JOB SUMMARY:
This position is responsible for performing a broad range of major health economic assignments including project formulation; planning and conduct of complex health economic and health services research; analyzing findings; provision of technical assistance; preparation of reports and presentation of results.

DUTIES:

As a Economist (Direct Hire), you will: Develop and conduct STD-associated prevention effectiveness studies and projects and functions as a subject matter expert in the conduct of economic analyses of STD prevention strategies and related STD health services delivery studies. Act as consultant to HSREB, DSTDP and other NCHHSTP units on methods for assessing the economic impact and cost of their STD-related activities and recommendations. Develop and implement cost and cost-benefit/effectiveness analyses of prevention strategies and program activities in conjunction with other DSTDP branches and NCHHSTP units. Conduct literature searches and syntheses of cost-benefit/effectiveness studies and methods relevant to DSTDP health services and health economics research, program assessment activities, and STD prevention strategies. Develop models for effectiveness, and cost-benefit/effectiveness/utility research projects, including design of research and data collection instruments.

QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED:
Basic Qualifications:
Applicants must have a degree: economics, that includes a least 21 semester hours in economics and 3 semester hours in statistics, accounting, or calculus. OR Applicants must have a combination of education and experience: courses equivalent to a major in economics, as shown in A above, plus appropriate experience or additional education. Minimum Qualifications: Applicants must have at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-12 in the Federal service as defined in the next paragraph. Specialized experience is experience which is directly related to the position which has equipped the applicant with the particular knowledge, skills and abilities (KSAs) to successfully perform the duties of the position to include experience in planning and conducting project formulation of health economics.
