Economists at Amazon will be expected to work directly with our chief economist and senior management on key business problems faced in a variety of Amazon businesses. Amazon economists will apply the frontier of economic thinking to market design, pricing, forecasting, online advertising and other areas. You apply econometric modeling, working with our world class data systems, and apply economic theory to business problems. In addition, economists at Amazon will be expected to maintain an independent and active research agenda, publishing in leading academic journals.

Basic Qualifications
PhD in Economics or anticipating completion of a PhD in Economics in 2012

Preferred Qualifications
· Ph.D. in economics with experience in industrial organization and applied econometrics.
· The ability to serve as a thought leader that can assist Amazon in identifying, formulating and analyzing business problems in new and emerging market segments.
· Strong writing and public speaking skills
· Strong applied econometric skills
· Ability to produce high quality analysis under tight time constraints
· Prior experience writing expert reports for complex problems
· Ability to independently write high quality articles, speeches and papers targeted to either a general or specialized audience
· Proven track record of publishing in widely read periodicals and journals
