Primary Function

The Institute for Energy Economics and Financial Analysis (IEEFA) is seeking an Energy Finance Analyst for a contracted consultant role based in Canada. We are looking for an experienced financial professional with knowledge of the oil & gas energy sector in Canada. The consultant must also possess a commitment to IEEFA's mission to accelerate the transition to a diverse, sustainable and profitable energy economy.

The Energy Finance Analyst produces written analysis and commentary on the oil and gas industry in Canada for IEEFA publications and formal submission to governmental bodies. Analysis focuses on market and policy factors affecting the industry regionally, alongside company holdings, finances, ownership, behavior and strategies, and capital structures.

IEEFA is a rapidly-growing NGO/nonprofit that conducts research and analysis on financial and economic issues related to energy markets, trends and policies. Headquartered in the United States, IEEFA has a team of analysts and communications personnel located across the globe. IEEFA produces a significant volume of original research, as well as ongoing analysis and reports on issues affecting energy industries. Roles and Responsibilities

Provides financial analysis for energy sector related projects.

Analyzes investments and their market performances.

Analyzes and interprets financial data trends and forecasts.

Analyzes financial statements and makes economic predictions for profitability, revenue and earnings.

Evaluates financial performance, comparing company results with forecast planning.

Makes recommendations by analyzing and interpreting data through comparative analysis.

Ability to create financial forecasts and models using Excel.

Ability to communicate and present financial data to a variety of audiences.

Builds relationships with reporters and external stakeholders including institutional investors.

Required Qualifications

5-7 years' corporate financial analysis experience.

Knowledge and understanding of Canadian and provincial governments.

Strong quantitative and analytical competency.

Knowledge of and/or experience with oil and gas sector in Canada.

Expertise with Excel software.

Excellent verbal and written communication with political astuteness, orally and in writing.

Excellent interpersonal skills.

Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.

Excellent time management skills with a proven ability to meet deadlines.

Demonstrated commitment to diversity, equity and inclusion.

Must be self-motivated, able to work independently, able to multi-task, set priorities and meet deadlines with limited direction while working remotely.

Preferred Qualifications

Experience working with institutional investors.

Experience working with community, environmental, labor and business stakeholders.

Experience working with media on issue related communications.

Master's degree preferred.

Residents (or former residents) of Toronto or Ottawa.

Education & Experience

Bachelor's degree in finance, economics or related field.

A minimum of five years' experience with financial analysis in the energy sector, or a related field
