Fisheries Socio-Economist

We currently have a vacancy for a Fisheries Socio-Economist based in the Marine Laboratory in Aberdeen.

A reserve list of successful applicants may be kept for additional Fisheries Socio-Economist posts which may arise in the next 12 months.

You will take a lead role in the provision of advice on, and the development of research on, the socio-economic effects and drivers of fisheries management actions and policies. This will involve extension of advice on management measures beyond traditional biological and environmental fields into socio-economic analysis.

You will also be involved in the acquisition and collation of relevant socio-economic data: e.g. questionnaires, direct requests (inter alia SeaFish). You will also be required to develop models of socio-economic drivers of
fishing fleet behaviour and be involved in the incorporation of such models in management strategy evaluations (MSEs). This role contributes to the public services national outcome.

You must have relevant postdoctoral or postgraduate experience in social science, economic or socio-economic modelling.

You must also be able to demonstrate appropriate computational, quantitative and organisational skills.

You must also be able to demonstrate the ability to work as part of a team along with good oral and written communication skills.

This is a two year fixed-term and pensionable appointment with the possibility of extension or permanency.

New entrants will normally start on the minimum of the pay range. Candidates with a disability who meet the minimum criteria for the appointment will be invited to an Assessment Centre.
