DESCRIPTION
Morgan Stanley Investment Management (MSIM) is a global provider of superior investment products and services to institutional clients across multiple asset classes. Global products are offered in Equity, Fixed Income, Asset Allocation and Alternative asset classes. MSIM manages approximately $410 billion in assets for a broad array of clients, including corporate pension plans, insurance companies, endowments and foundation, public pension plans and high net worth individuals.

The Global Multi-Asset team manages approximately $16bn in global multi-asset class mandates for clients, including separate accounts and mutual funds, both benchmark- and absolute return-oriented. The investment objective of the GMA team is to identify and exploit investment opportunities arising out of macroeconomic cyclical and structural shifts, across equities, fixed income, currencies and commodities globally.

Responsibilities:
 Establish forecasts for economic growth, inflation and policy for countries under coverage – objective: identifying gaps between markets/ consensus by uncovering underappreciated trends, potential inflection points and structural/ regime shifts
ï‚° Perform special research projects into areas of particular market relevance (eg. fiscal policy in US, debt sustainability in peripheral Europe, impact of credit boom on China growth)
ï‚° Countries under coverage: US, China, Europe, Japan as well as other major developed and emerging economies
ï‚° Data monitoring: analysis of economic data releases and policy announcements with the objective of assessing how forecasts are tracking and, importantly, identifying turning points in key economic trends
ï‚° Develop and maintain economic models and indicators, and gather data for forecasting and data tracking using current database platform
ï‚° Frequent communication and presentation of forecasts, data tracking analysis, special projects results and general macroeconomic views to GMA research and investment teams, and occasionally to broader internal and external forums
ï‚° Keep informed of academic, central bank and think-tank economic research

QUALIFICATIONS
Position Requirements:
ï‚° PhD in Economics from a well-respected program required.
ï‚° Minimum 5 years of work experience in international economic research, preferably emerging markets, required.
ï‚° High degree of familiarity with the functioning of financial markets a strong plus.
ï‚° Strong verbal and written communication skills and entrepreneurial orientation are required. Candidate must be self-motivated with strong organizational and effective interpersonal skills.
ï‚° High level of creativity in analyzing macroeconomic cycles, structuring research assignments and deliverables is required.
