Ofgem is committed to making a positive difference for energy consumers through effective regulation of the market and close working with suppliers to ensure sustainable energy for consumers and businesses in the UK.

The Office of the Chief Economist (OCE) plays a pivotal role in Ofgem's work, developing our analytical capability and providing substantial input into key decisions affecting energy consumers. As Head of Analytical Quality, you'll be responsible for helping to ensure that our analytical decisions are rigorous, robust, and informed by close partnership-working with leading academics in the field. It's a role with substantial autonomy, working on some of the most interesting and important issues facing the sector. As well as working to develop the analysis behind our decision-making and impact assessments, you will also agree and embed our regulatory stances and design a programme of activities that ensures our work complies with the recommendations of the Macpherson report on model quality assurance.

Such an integral role demands significant experience and expertise in policy appraisal, probably gained in an economic regulation environment or government department. With line management responsibility for a team of seven and stakeholder engagement duties extending across academia, government departments and other regulators, it's vital that you are an engaging and skilled communicator capable of harnessing and finessing diverse skillsets and working styles. It goes without saying that you'll have a proven ability to manage complex projects; if you can also demonstrate range and flexibility across a variety of analytical activities, then so much the better. Your degree in economics (or a related subject) may be enhanced by an advanced qualification in a complementary field such as modelling or data analysis.

Ofgem can offer you a comprehensive and competitive benefits package, which includes:
Up to 30 days' annual leave
Excellent training and development opportunities
The opportunity to join the Civil Service pension arrangements, which include a valuable range of benefits
Flexible working hours and family friendly policies
Subsidised gym and restaurant (London only)
Interest free season ticket loan.
