Head of Department of Economics, Macquarie University

Macquarie University
Sydney - Australia
S: Level E

Macquarie University has never been afraid of tackling the big issues, standing at the forefront of change and innovation. We believe that success stems from collaborating with the right people on the right issues. In appointing our next Head of Department, Economics, we are seeking a leader who can not only craft a department but can help define a field. They can do so by serving our core mission: service to, and engagement of, our students and by extension the community at large.

Macquarie Business School is the largest and among the most eminent business schools in Australia. In recent years, the School renewed its commitment to excellence and innovation and pushed the boundaries of research and external engagement to new levels. One marker of achievement is the recognition that our courses have achieved, including being named in the QS World University Rankings 2021 – where our Global MBA was ranked number two in Australia and among the Top 20 in the world, and in the top 100 in the Financial Times Global MBA Rankings 2020, among others.

Creating a high performing culture in which people thrive, the Head of Department will lead the way in delivering transformative teaching and learning that supports graduate employability, enhancing the research profile, and fostering partnerships with industry, government and other stakeholders. Reporting to the Executive Dean of the Macquarie Business School, the Head of Department will also contribute to the wider faculty leadership.

We are looking for an experienced, visionary leader who can unite, inspire and create a culture of high performance. The role will be attractive to candidates with experience of leading transformative change in an academic environment, who have the capacity to inspire their team with a common purpose, bring strong relational skills and an exceptional record of research or teaching and leadership. You will also have proven expertise in curriculum design and innovation, and in the delivery and assessment of quality teaching programs.
