Ofgem is committed to making a positive difference for energy consumers through effective regulation of the market and close working with suppliers to ensure sustainable energy for consumers and businesses in the UK.

The Office for Research & Economics (ORE) was created in Autumn 2016. Today, we are a function full of individuals with extremely diverse backgrounds across economics, social research and engineering, all sitting behind the collective purpose of improving the robustness of our analysis of energy sector developments. Our Research and Horizon Scanning team is part of the ORE and leads on work relating to Ofgem's research agenda and the future shape of the energy market.

About the role:
As head of this team, you'll play a significant and meaningful role in contributing to the ORE's objectives by leading an augmented programme of research and evaluation to inform policy development.

In owning this programme, you'll be furthering Ofgem's "Insights for Future Regulation" project and our Future Insights discussion paper series. This initiative provides an excellent opportunity to play a leading role on high-profile issues that will provide key insights; helping us to deliver real, beneficial changes for consumers.

You'll have freedom to develop economic research projects and deep dives, building on our external and internal engagement on research themes central to Ofgem's future thinking.

About You:
With your degree in economics or demonstrable equivalent expertise through professional experience, and your experience or working knowledge of the GB electricity and gas markets, you'll be able to apply economic concepts to assess policy issues. Confident in your ability to present findings and recommendations in person and in written policy papers, you'll work successfully with a diverse range of stakeholders and bring complex subject matter to life for different audiences. You'll use your highly developed project management skills and confidence working across organisations to co-ordinate resources to deliver agreed outcomes. You'll also know how to channel successful delivery of work through your team, and be passionate about supporting individuals towards their own career development goals.

Ofgem can offer you a comprehensive and competitive benefits package, which includes:
• Up to 30 days' annual leave
• Excellent training and development opportunities
• The opportunity to join the Civil Service pension arrangements, which include a valuable range of benefits
• Flexible working hours and family friendly policies
