University of Nottingham
Nottingham - United Kingdom
S: £25,513 to £37,394

Applications are invited for the above post based at The NIHR Research Design Service (RDS) for the East Midlands. RDS East Midlands (see: www.rds-eastmidlands.nihr.ac.uk) is one of ten regional centres funded by the National Institute for Health Research (NIHR) to provide design and methodological support to health and social care researchers developing grant applications for submission to NIHR and other national peer-reviewed funding programmes.

This is an exciting opportunity for a health economist to join the team of RDS East Midlands advisors who support researchers across the East Midlands. The successfulcandidate will be expected to provide advice on the health economic aspects of the design and analysis of research proposals and participate in the delivery of funding awareness seminars and other learning events provided by the RDS. They will also be required to represent the RDS on various occasions such as meetings, local conferences, etc. The unit is keen to support the personal development of its staff and it runs staff development sessions and promotes the participation in methodological courses. The exposure to a wide range of research applications and a high chance of collaborative research makes this an ideal post for a health economist who wishes to further develop their career.

Candidates appointed at R&T Level 4 must have a higher degree with a major component in health economics and have a PhD or equivalent in health economics or a subject that is relevant, or have significant research experience in these areas. They should also have evidence of experience in collaborative applied research. Candidates will also be considered from those who hold a higher degree with a major component in health economics who are close to completion of a PhD. Candidates appointed at R&T Level 4a must have a higher degree with a major component in health economics and have evidence of applying health economics methods in the health or social care setting.

At both levels, training and skills in health economics are required as are research training and experience in the various health economic evaluation methods. Candidates must also have the ability to communicate well with researchers who have little or no knowledge of health economics as well as the ability to discuss ideas with researchers at very early stages, helping them to refine their research questions and ensure what they do is manageable and of high methodological quality.

This post will be offered on a fixed-term contract until 30 September 2018, and is open to job-share. This is a full-time post preferably, though applications are welcome from candidates wishing to work part-time. Please indicate on your application the hours you wish to work.
