Housing Data Analyst

On mobile and the Web, Trulia provides house hunters with insights and unique information about properties, neighborhoods and real estate agents. Additionally, Trulia offers data and information about schools, crimes, commute times, and the real estate market.

The housing data analyst will use data to uncover new and interesting insights about the housing market. You will use Trulia, Zillow and outside data (e.g., Census, BLS, etc.) to help tell stories on the Trulia Trends blog. The Trends blog is a leading source of information about national and local housing markets and is closely followed by the media, the real estate industry, and consumers. These insights also power content on the website and presentations to the industry and to internal audiences. The housing data analyst will work with the economics team as well as with the communications team and marketing team.

Primary responsibilities:

Track regular data releases and news on housing and the economy
Draw insights from Trulia's own data and outside data for both journalists and the Trulia Trends blog
Identify quality and accuracy improvements in our data and analyses
Draft consumer surveys and analyze results
Track housing market and housing policy trends
Brainstorm connections between data and possible storytelling opportunities

Qualifications:

Strong data analysis skills and quantitative intuition
Familiarity with key data and concepts about housing and the economy
Solid understanding of economic forces and policy
Comfortable working both independently and collaboratively with economists and PR practitioners
Fluency with a common statistical package (stata, R, SPSS, SAS) and ability to pick up others quickly
A solid understanding of SQL based languages
Solid understanding of statistical concepts
Creativity, curiosity, tenacity, and conscientiousness
Bachelor's Degree in Economics, Mathematics, or Statistics and at least two years of relevant work experience

Nice to haves:

Experience and skills in using spreadsheets and GIS tools to analyze data and HTML/CSS and JavaScript (particularly D3) to visualize it
Experience in telling stories as a data journalist
