Team Overview

The Economic and Political Intelligence Centre (EPIC) hosts Canada's foremost country risk team within the broader EDC Economics' team. EPIC is responsible for analyzing and assessing economic and political risks including related country and industry data to inform EDC's decision-makers and Canada's exporters and investors. Internally, EPIC provides country and industry risk insights to help EDC make informed decisions regarding strategy and when offering financial and insurance solutions in support of Canadian exporters and investors. Externally, EPIC provides insight to Canadian companies through a variety of country and industry risk knowledge products, and through other interactions such as speaking engagements.

EPIC develops and deploys country and industry insights via the following key functions:
• Measuring the economic impact of EDC's services
• Standardizing EDC's industry and country/market data
• Development of industry leading models to produce country risk ratings for the main lines of business at EDC (e.g. Financing, Insurance, etc.)
• Assignment of country risk ratings for nearly 200 markets
• Forecasting industry outlooks
• Application of country and industry insights to the assessment of relevant risks on hundreds of financial transactions
• Production of several of EDC's key knowledge products (Global Export Forecast, Country Risk Quarterly, The Commodity Tracker)
• Supporting customer interactions via speeches, webinars, and custom research
• Expanding and maintaining a collaboration network in EPIC's key areas of work

EPIC constantly seeks to create synergies within our diverse group to innovate the way in which we assess and deploy insights. We are actively deepening key initiatives such as measuring impact and structuring EDC's market and industry data to compliment best in class existing analytics capabilities, country modeling, and structured analytical techniques. We do this by fostering an environment of collaboration, rapid innovation and the application of a strategic lens to everything we do. Our analysts liaise with Canadian companies, industry associations, Government of Canada Departments, the IMF, the World Bank, and the OECD amongst other groups. We have access to diverse sources of research and data and leverage a range of software including EViews, SAS, Tableau. We offer annual training and networking opportunities to ensure our analysts remain connected and at the leading edge of industry best practices.

This position would be part of a newly established group within EDC Economics whose vision is to provide enterprise wide value via connections, economic measurement, innovation, and analysis. The successful candidate would report to the Director, Economic & Political Intelligence Centre (EPIC).

Discipline summary and responsibility highlights:
• Lead or contribute to the development and validation of economic impact models
• Identify, compile and manage data required to measure economic impact
• Produce quantitative and qualitative analyses (reports, briefings and presentations) to inform senior management decisions
• Collaborate effectively across EDC, Government of Canada departments, International organizations and thinktanks to build best practices in economic measurement
• The successful candidate would also be interested in expanding their capabilities in one or more of the following areas: industry forecasting, country risk, and/or development of models outside of the impact space

Screening Criteria
• Completed a master's degree in Economics, Public Policy, Political Science, Statistics or in a related field
• Minimum 5 years' experience in economic and/or political analysis, or related experience
• Demonstrated work-related experience in model building / econometrics
• Experience in using firm level (micro) data sets
• Experience in employing data modelling / statistical software (notably SAS / R but also other software's like STATA)
• Working knowledge of economic and/or political analysis principles and practices
• Proficient in Excel

Assets
• Bilingual in both official languages (French and English)
• Experience with data visualization software (i.e. PowerBI, Tableau) to represent complex data sets communicating key insights to non-expert audiences

• Knowledge of economic principles
• Excellent interpersonal skills with an ability to communicate effectively in a wide variety of settings
• Ability to write in a clear and concise manner
• Strong desire to learn and ability to apply a keen curiosity to solve diverse problems
• Ability to work autonomously and to take initiative

Salary Range
• $74,200-$111,400 plus performance-based incentive
