The Role
This position offers an opportunity to work closely with GM's chief economist and other senior economic staff in conducting economic analysis to inform GM's business. The Economics team's work directly impacts the company's business decisions and is widely used in GM, including by senior leadership. The Economics team prepares economic and automotive industry analysis for global markets and is part of the Global Portfolio Planning organization.

Responsibilities:
The international economist will be a member of GM's Economics team with a range of responsibilities, including, but not limited to:
As lead economist for a set of countries, follow, analyze, and provide forecasts of major macroeconomic indicators including auto sales
Collaborate with chief economist on (non-academic) research projects, including participating in the preparation of memos to senior leadership and presentations to GM and external audiences
Conduct econometric analysis of auto demand and other issues
Write regular updates for monthly internal publications
Keep up with third party research and economic data relating to those countries
Participate in discussions with colleagues within GM focused on those economies, including colleagues involved in sales and production in those countries, Finance, Planning, and Public Policy
Analyze and follow economic research on other economic issues relevant to GM, such as commodity prices or GHG standards.

Requirements
3+ years of work experience in a business or policy environment involving tight deadlines
Ph.D. in economics is strongly preferred
Master's degree in economics OR Ph.D. or masters in closely related field such as public policy, plus both extensive course work in economics and several years of work experience in economics
Econometric or statistical software skills
