Job Description

As the Lead Economist in our London office you will be involved in growing our infrastructure economics business in London and the South East and internationally identifying, winning and delivering on a range of projects across the sectors in which Mott MacDonald works. These include transport, digital infrastructure, water and environment, health education. You will be crucial in contributing to the future development of Mott MacDonald's economic and social consultancy business, playing a leading part in business development (public and private sector clients), managing significant assignments, building a motivated team and working closely with both external and internal clients. You may be looking to grow your own team, take your work in a particular direction or simply have more responsibility. This would then be the ideal opportunity.

You will lead and manage the following:

Identify new opportunities with external clients through pro-active business development from your network of contacts
Interpret public and private client briefs and assist with or manage the production of winning bids
Provide technical expertise in your field in areas such as market assessments, business cases, economic and social impacts and evaluations and successful funding bids
Recruit and grow an infrastructure economics team in London and the South East
Produce consumable, logical and persuasive reports drawing on a range of evidence such as primary research and ONS data
Engage with a range of stakeholders from senior managers to vulnerable community groups in sectors that complement our core infrastructure business
Manage tasks, projects and resources (drawn from across the Mott MacDonald Group)
Promote and market the capability and added value offered to support internal clients and colleagues across Mott MacDonald

Candidate Specification

We are looking for a senior, high profile individual who can offer a minimum of 10 years' experience in social and economic infrastructure development ideally in transport and urban infrastructure.
Ideally we would like you to have the following experience:

Worked at a senior level in a national or international consultancy
A background in infrastructure economics, funding and business cases
Business development track record (public and private in SE England)
Experience of engaging with external stakeholders at senior levels such as politicians, business directors and decision makers
Experience of leading and growing teams
Experience of managing projects up to c£500k in fees
Good first degree (2:1) or above and postgraduate qualifications in economics/politics/mathematics or other relevant subject
Both UK and international experience is desirable as many of our assignments are global
