Lead Quantitative Economist

We are looking for a lead economist to run a two person Quantitative Macroeconomics team. The role is based in our London office.

Roles and Responsibilities

The team's primary function includes leading the firm's long-term forecasting process; producing global thematic research using quantitative methods and active contribution to the flagship quarterly Outlook publication that forecasts one and two years ahead. Additionally, the team also develops specialized country and asset-specific models. Members of the team collaborate with economists and analysts at all levels and with all teams within the research department.

As Lead Economist, Quantitative Macroeconomics, you will:
• Combine macroeconomic knowledge, econometric experience and software skills to lead the ongoing improvement of our global forecast process by:
o Utilizing NIGEM model to produce long term forecasts and scenario analysis.
o Building country specific forecasting models to enhance our clients' understanding of structural economic issues.
o Overseeing database updating and maintenance process and ensuring efficiency of our forecasting tools and processes.
• Produce and publish global thematic research and scenario risk analysis for distribution to our clients.
Preferred Qualifications and Competencies
• Graduate degree in economics, statistics, finance or a related discipline. Postgraduate degree is preferred.
• Thorough knowledge of econometrics, particularly time series analysis and macroeconomic forecasting techniques (e.g. ARMA, VAR, VECM, PCA).
• Econometric programming experience in at least one of the following statistical packages/software environments: Eviews, Stata, or R.
• Experience with NIGEM or other global macroeconomic models would be considered an advantage.
• Strong written and oral communication skills and the ability to articulate complex econometric and economic arguments to a non-technical audience.
• Candidates should have a keen interest in global financial and macro-economic events. We value a well-developed sense of teamwork as well as the ability to work independently. Above all, candidates should be intellectually curious and willing to learn.
• Presentation of our analysis and forecast to clients.
