Market Economist

The Market Economist is responsible for leading the design and implementation of TCF Corporate Treasury's global macro research and outreach activities—including formulation of TCF's global macro view, developing economic and interest rate forecasts, the improvement and maintenance of tools and dashboards for analyzing global macro markets, creating and maintaining regular reports, presentations, and publication materials, providing customized macro support to core TCF businesses, and driving collaboration across teams—under guidance of TCF Treasurer and Chief Investment Officer.

The Market Economist manages the staff of TCF's global macro research team.

Major Areas of Accountability

· Leads formulation of TCF Corporate Treasury's global macro view, economic and interest rate forecasts, and recommendations to help shape business strategies for the bank and its clients.
· Leads development, design, and communication of TCF Corporate Treasury's daily economic and financial market commentary, regular global macro data dashboards, monthly U.S. Economic Outlook and interest rate forecast publications, and annual/mid-year Economic Outlook.
· Leads development, design, and communication of regular reports and presentation materials—both in oral and written form—on the global macro environment to TCF BODs, Executive Management, Business Units, and external clients.
· Partners with internal TCF Corporate Functions and Business Units to provide fundamental market research and analysis, and embed TCF's global macro view into core business strategies.
Engages internal TCF Corporate Treasury team to add value in liquidity, capital, interest rate risk, and portfolio management.

Minimum Qualifications

Required:
· Bachelor's degree in Finance, Economics, or related capital market experience

Preferred:
Master's degree with concentration in quantitative fields such as Finance or Economics or a related discipline.

Required Work Experience / Skills

· 8+ years of related professional work experience in the field of applied macroeconomics and financial markets research and analysis with recognition by peers and managers for excellence and innovation.
· Advanced knowledge of principles and practices related to applied economic research and financial markets knowledge, sufficient to critique/evaluate the work of advanced professional staff, assure work quality, and to establish, conduct, and continually improve work processes.
· Excellent interpersonal, communication, and presentation skills, including the capacity to effectively communicate complex technical issues in simple terms, verbally and in writing.
· A high degree of self-motivation with the ability to work across a range of concurrent tasks, to set priorities and motivate others, to adapt to changing circumstances and embrace new ideas, and to achieve results in a demanding, team-oriented work environment.
· Advanced Excel, PowerPoint and Word skills.
Ability to demonstrate mastery of introductory calculus concepts

Preferred Work Experience / Skills

· Current knowledge of global economic and political developments and evolving trends.
· Asset class experience with corporate bonds/loans, commercial real estate and consumer lending (auto, mortgage, card).
· Familiarity and experience with econometric and financial modeling techniques.
Familiarity with fundamental concepts of linear algebra, differential equations, probability, and/or statistics.
