Applications for full-time enrolment in the PhD programme in Economics are invited for entry in September 2017.

The Economics Department at Royal Holloway displays strength across all main fields of the discipline - microeconomics, macroeconomics and econometrics – and in particular labour economics, development economics, microeconomic theory and experimental economics. In the latest nation-wide Research Excellence Framework (REF2014) the Department has been placed in the top 10 in the country in terms of producing the highest quality research.

Applications are also welcome in economic subject areas related to the research centre on Robust Inference in a Digital Economy (RIDE), such as high frequency trading, market manipulation, and social networks. More information about the research centre and its members can be found here:
https://www.royalholloway.ac.uk/ride/home.aspx

The Department offers a vibrant full-time four-year PhD programme with around 30 students enrolled. Students on the programme benefit from advanced economics training in their first year, and from annual in-house PhD Spring conference with invited speakers.

Successful applicants are expected to have a Masters degree from a good programme in economics (or show a strong analytical and quantitative background).

The Department offers a limited number of 3-year College Scholarships that cover fees and include maintenance grants of up to £14,000 per year. In addition, the Teaching Assistantships are available to all students in the amount of £4,000 per year.
