The Center for the Economics of Human Development (CEHD) at the University of Chicago is seeking motivated and creative postdoctoral scholars interested in working on diverse aspects of human development. Scholars with unique perspectives are encouraged, including those developing rigorous formal models of the life cycles of individuals and families, including models of family formation and dissolution, those making extensive and creative empirical explorations of the life cycle, and scholars conducting ethnographic studies of human development. The study of learning, the creation of capabilities, the formation and expression of identity, and studies of the role of mentors, teachers, peers, parents, and genes are within the scope of our mandate.

Research on human development from conception through adulthood and the effectiveness of interventions on all age groups is encouraged. Of special importance are studies of the role of the family and the study of interactions among children, parents, teachers, and mentors.

Unique data sets on long-term experimental evaluations are available to scholars at the center. Scholars across disciplines are welcomed. Studies of health, cognition, and non-cognitive/socioemotional skills are encouraged. Fellows will have access to high quality graduate and undergraduate research assistants and novel longitudinal and intervention data sets. Fellows will also sharpen their analytical skills while advancing their research and CEHD's research agendas.

The position offers salary commensurate with skills and training, as well as health insurance, and opportunities for travel to present and/or collaborate. Terms and start dates are negotiable.

Requirements:

Ph.D. in relevant field.
Interest in advancing understanding of human development across the life cycle, which includes early childhood and adolescence.
Interest in the impacts of early life conditioning on inequality, intergenerational mobility, employment, health and crime.
Experience with conducting empirical research
Integrity and attention to detail.
