The Global Priorities Institute (GPI), in partnership with the Department of Economics, offers Research Fellowship openings for predoctoral researchers. The fellowships offer an opportunity for those considering working towards a doctorate in economics to build invaluable experience in research at a world-leading Institution.The (flexible) start date for the Fellowships is September 2020.

You will conduct economics research within guidelines provided by the Assistant Director of GPI, as well as contributing to the planning of the Global Priorities Institute's economics research and the organisational development of our research group. You will manage your own research and administrative activities, within guidelines provided by the Assistant Director of the Institute. You will also provide research assistance to GPI researchers and faculty in the Department of Economics. For research assistance, we will try to match the successful candidate with a faculty member with related research interests, with possible faculty sponsors including Alex Teytelboym, Rick van der Ploeg, Hamish Lowe, Abi Adams, Ines Moreno de Barreda, Elizabeth Baldwin and Willemien Kets.

You will be a member of GPI's growing economics research team. GPI sits formally within the Faculty of Philosophy but you will engage closely with Oxford's Department of Economics, one of the world's leading economics departments. GPI is currently located in the Manor Road building alongside the Department of Economics. We anticipate moving to a new office elsewhere in central Oxford within the next year; you will have access to open plan desk space in the Department of Economics in addition to workspace at GPI. You will have the opportunity to attend seminars and to enrol in an Economics MPhil graduate option course, subject to approval. The role offers an opportunity for those considering working towards a doctorate in economics to build invaluable experience in research at a world-leading Institution.

The postholder is required to have a first degree in economics or a closely related discipline, together with some relevant experience. Also essential is outstanding academic ability, an ability to manage your own research and excellent communication skills. In addition, the fellow must possess an interest in global priorities research and an interest in pursuing economics research at the doctorate level.

The post is fixed-term from the date of appointment for one or two years depending on your preference, and is anticipated to start in September 2020 (flexible). Applications are particularly welcome from women, black and ethnic minority candidates, as these groups are underrepresented in economics

Salary: £29,176 – £34,804 p.a., depending on experience (Grade 6)

Subject to UK tax regulations and the availability of funding, a relocation allowance may be available to support with a move to Oxford.

Contract type: 1 or 2 years fixed term (depending on candidate preference)

Start date: September 2020 (flexible)
