Opportunities to play a role in developing and leading ground-breaking data analytical work and play a key and role in national policy don't often arise - but this role offers such an opportunity.

We are recruiting a Principal Economist to deliver and commission high quality, rigorous, quantitative analysis in areas related to research, innovation and the labour market.

If successful, you'll join the NCUB at an exciting time in our development as we take on new analytical work and start the process of establishing a new insights service: NCUB Analytics.

The Principal Economist will work in our Policy and Engagement Team, conducting independent research as well as working collaboratively with researchers and analysts at top UK universities and in the private sector.

This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced and ambitious economist and analyst to contribute to an area of policy critical to national priorities. The role will involve developing evidence and insight for stakeholders in Government, UK Research and Innovation (UKRI), universities and the private sector, as well as commissioning and overseeing large-scale research projects with strategic partners.

NCUB is a data and technology driven organisation. We are in process of developing a new NCUB Analytics platform that uses cutting edge technology to collect new datasets in areas of interest. The Principal Economist will have an exciting opportunity to target the focus of NCUB Analytics and develop evidence and insights from it.

The successful candidate will offer extensive experience working as part of a multi-disciplinary team to generate quantitative evidence, and have the ability to manage multiple, complex projects simultaneously from initiation through to delivery. You'll have knowledge of analysis techniques and methodologies, with an understanding of how best to apply them to different situations.

The role would suit someone who has formal training in statistical or econometric analysis, and we would welcome applications from academia, as well as the private and public sectors. Candidates will be inquisitive and able to act with initiative, identifying interesting research questions and designing suitable ways of gathering and collecting evidence.

The National Centre for Universities and Business (NCUB) is an independent think-tank and registered charity focused on making the UK the best place in the world for universities and businesses to collaborate. We believe that collaboration is critical to tackling many of the greatest challenges facing the world today, from driving the research and innovations that will help make us healthier, wealthier and greener, to delivering the highly skilled, diverse and adaptable workforce needed to drive the future.
