Principal/Senior Consultant-International Sustainable Transport

Ricardo-AEA's Sustainable Transport Practice has the objective to help reduce the environmental impacts of the transport sector by providing high quality policy advice to Government and private sector organisations all over the world. Key clients include the European Commission, the Department for Transport, and a growing range of international public and private sector clients. Our work is high profile and covers a wide range of topics including low carbon transport technologies, biofuels, GHG emissions reductions strategies, the development of transport emissions models and sustainable aviation.

This position can be based at either our London or Oxfordshire offices.

Purpose:

Support Ricardo-AEA's account manager for international transport in winning and delivering new transport consultancy projects for clients in non-EU markets, with a strong focus on Asian markets. These projects are likely to include transport scheme planning and assessments, financing of sustainable transport projects, transport policy advice, quantitative analysis of the costs and benefits of transport measures, and transport emissions analysis. The successful candidate will support the development and growth of this new area within Ricardo-AEA's Sustainable Transport business, utilising their existing networks of public and private sector contacts around the world and building upon these relationships to increase business.



Key Accountabilities:

Specific requirements of the role are to undertake a range of activities depending on business needs, including:

* Bid for and manage complex international consultancy projects in the field of sustainable transport.
* Work effectively as team member on a range of projects
* Promotes a team approach to developing business relationships and executing the selling process; Identifies and develops strong strategic partnerships with consulting companies and research organisations as way to delivery projects and win new business
* Lead and provide written content and technical analysis for the preparation of bids and reports, including detailed proposals and expressions of interest;
* Working closely with the Practice Director and the International Transport Account Manager to carry out business development activities including liaison with existing and potential new customers;
* Use existing transport planning and policy experience and their network to identify to new business opportunities proactively to support Ricardo-AEA's sustainable transport business objectives and capabilities
* Maintains strong knowledge of competitor capabilities and tactics, and Ricardo-AEA capabilities and effectively promotes these to clients
* Present Ricardo-AEA's work at conferences and technical meetings;

Knowledge, Skills and abilities:

* Educated to Bachelor or Masters degree level, or equivalent, in a relevant subject (economics, transport planning, science, engineering).
* Excellent report-writing and numerical skills.
* Proven experience in winning and delivering consultancy projects in non-EU markets to support transport scheme development and analysis (including conducting economic appraisals of scheme impacts).
* Thorough, detailed knowledge of key policy issues in the field of transport-related environmental policy at an International level.
* Strong understanding of transport related activities of key donors and transport initiatives.
* Management of complex projects and proposals for public sector clients.
* Previous experience in demand forecasting and transport modelling will be desirable.
* Effective presentation and written communication skills.
* Strong business development skills and commercial acumen.
* Effective and proactive team worker, capable of supporting and developing peers and other staff members
